We did it!

I can't believe how much we got done! We had several experienced sewers, and one newbie...and even a few young women. With 4 sewing machines, 3 irons, lots of fabric and cloth diapers...and look what we accomplished.

We want to send a BIG thank you out to all those who donated the needed items. We are still in need of ribbon of various colors...gross grain is best. We still have some diapers (if anyone else has more to donate we would love to have them) and we have lots of material so we will definitely be doing this again. If you couldn't come this time you'll still get another chance.

We also want to thank all those who came out...in that huge downpour...to lend a hand and hang out with us.

We hope some more of you will be able to come next time.

New Humanitarian Project

Here's our next humanitarian project. Baby burp cloths made by embellishing cloth diapers. They are super obsorbent and now super cute. They can also be used as a changing pad.

We will need donations for this project. Any one who can donate ribbon, rick rack, fabric, and perhaps most imprtantly cloth diapers...please bring them to the RS room over the next few weeks.

This easy sew project will be a great chance for those of us with some sewing experience ( even if small ) to teach the skill to some of the sewing newbies. So if you've never sewn on a machine before and would like to learn how...here's your chance. And if you already know how to sew a straight line then we need you to help one of the newbies along.

We hope to see you all there! There will also be a spot for any who want to continue working on our other humanitarian projects already underway.

Super Saturday

This past Saturday we had the Cape Coral Wards first ever Super Saturday Event. It was a huge success! Thank you to everyone who attended. No matter how much we planned and prepared it just wouldn't be a success unless people showed up. We had a great turn out. Also I want to thank those who stepped up to prepare or help with the various projects. I learned at few new names and got to know some people better. Not to mention all the crafting that got done.

At the other end of the sewing section, Cell phone cases were being made.

Potted Flower Pens were easy and fun.

Others were content to sit and visit. Being with our sisters is great.

Thanks to the many letters cut out on the Cricut machine.....Several cute plaques were made. Including the one at the top of this page which will be hanging in our Relief Society Room.

A free Craft.

Here's a craft that will be FREE. There should be plenty of pens and flowers and supplies. There may be a limited number of little flower pots. But the flower pens can be put in any number of cute containers that we already have at home. We would still like people to sign up so we can be sure to have enough supplies.

Wood Plaques

The cost of this craft will depend upon what size plaque you choose. The small plaques run about $2.00 and the large one is $7.00. Once again, you may want to pick up your own if you have access to coupons...you could save some money that way. The other materials (paint, paper for letters, mod podge) will be about $1.50.

Here's one I just finished. Keep in mind that it's very girly because it's for a little girl. You can make one for a little boy, or one with your last name, or any number of other words for example: Garden, Family, Home, Welcome, Believe,) What ever you want...as long as it fits on your plaque. Tyler Flinders will be at the activity with her Cricut which will cut out the letters for us.

If you want to add other embelishments...like stickers or other cut outs please bring them with you. However these are not necessary. This one is 9 x 12. $2 + $1.50 for supplies.

We will have various colors of paper available (including black, brown, and white, which are not shown). And This picture shows that the letters can be cut in various sizes depending on your needs. However, the letter style on the small plaque is not the same as the one we will have.

There will also be various colors of paint available. Here is what I will be bringing.

Temple Bag

When I saw this Temple bag I knew I had to make one.  

Two days before the Sisters in White Temple trip I did!  

It was pretty simple and inexpensive, less than $10.  

While this is meant to serve as a Temple bag,

it would also work nicely as a garment bag for travel.

Some Crafty Options

Our Super Saturday is coming up on June 26th. Here are a few of the Crafts that you may want to sign up for. You can sign up at church or by e-mail.

One of the Free crafts will be Rice Bags. We made a bunch of these for a humanitarian project. They can be warmed in the microwave or cooled in the freezer to help with headaches and other ache and pains. Now is your chance to make one for your self. There is no charge for this craft.

This next Craft is a NO SEW 4th of July tu tu. They are So cute and So easy. There is absolutely no Sewing! Anyone can do it, and I'll show you how. The cost for Materials is $5.25. That is for 3 yards of fabric and a length of Ribbon. You may be able to get the materials for less if you have coupons. Feel free to do so. This is the perfect size for toddlers up to about 7yrs old. If you want different colors you may bring your own material. 1 yard each of 3 colors.

Also a temple clothes garment bag....very cute!

And don't forget you can bring your own projects to work on as well... and canning, and finishing up our humanitarian projects, and you can use this time to put together your 72 hour kits. Keep watching for more info.

Sisters in White

On the 29th of May the Stake held a wonderful event called Sisters in White. The plan was to have as many Sisters as possible attend the Temple; whether they did an endowment sessions or baptisms or just walked the temple grounds. And then there was a luncheon and a fireside at the Chapel across the street.

We had a wonderful turn out. Many of us went up the night before and stayed up way too late chatting and laughing. As if we didn't chat and laugh enough on the long drive up!=) Still we woke up nice and early and made our way to the Temple which was full of so many sisters from our stake. It was really nice.

We were all starving by the time we got to the luncheon, and it was delicious! The sisters who prepared it were so organized. After being recipients of their fine service, we were led to the chapel where we again feasted...this time it was food for the soul. A very talented Elder provided a beautiful musical number...which invited the spirit right away. Then we enjoyed a fabulous talk....if anyone remembers his name, maybe you can post it...he was wonderful. And to the great delight of us all, we were favored with another musical number. Music is so powerful. I think all who went, benefited. The stake is planning to make this an annual tradition, I hope we can get even more sisters out there next time.

Humanitarian Activity...Baby Hats!

Last night we had another Humanitarian Activity. There were 7 of us there and we had a great time chatting while we moved ahead on one project and began work on another.

Our Baby blanket squares are coming along nicely. We've had quite a few turned in, and we are now working on lining them in white. We will soon be ready to stitch them together!

Also, a few of us began working on crocheted baby hats (see the top pic). They are so cute! I was so excited to learn this new pattern, and look forward to using it a lot in the future. We will be donating these to the hospital or womens center. Thanks Sarah!

Relief Society Birthday Celebration and Service Project

Thank you to everybody who attended our Celebration on last Saturday (Mar. 20th). You all made it so fun. I had personally had a very rough day, and you cheered me up immensely!

I was having such a good time I forgot to take pictures of all the colorful balloons and table cloths ...and all the delicious Pizza's, and salad....and all the wonderful people who were there. I'll try harder next time.

While we ate we played 'Two Truths and a Wish'. And later we got to share what we'd learned at our tables with everyone else. I loved getting to know people a little better. I still have trouble with names, but I'm working on it.

It was wonderful how everyone chipped in to help clean up. And then we began our Service Project. I attempted to teach everyone how to Crochet a simple square, which we will later join together to make a cute baby blanket, that we will be donating to a Hospital or Womens Center. I'm not the greatest teacher, luckily a few other experienced people helped out. Thanks! And others rolled the skeins of yarn into balls for us, which saved me from a lot more work at home.

To all you beginners I just want to say. Hang in there. I remember when I learned and it was tough. But it really is true, that all you need to do is practice. The first one may be hard, and may look a little funny, but the next one will be easier and better. It's such a fun skill to have. If you have any questions or run into any problems please feel free to catch me after church or something and let me help you out.

Anyone who missed the activity but would like to help crochet, can get a ball of yarn from me at church. And here are the directions....the best way I know how to give them. You can ask for clarifications at church.=)

Chain 30, then chain three more. Turn and begin doing double crochet's in your 30th chain. Double crochet all the way along your chain. You should end up with 30 posts, including the one made by the 3 chains. That is your first row. You need to make 16 rows. If that doesn't make sense, just see me at church and I'll show you.

Sisters Temple Trip

On March 6th a few of us met bright and early to make the trip to the Orlando Temple. We saw a few others from our ward while we were there...unfortunately by the time we thought of taking a picture we had no idea where the others were. Still, we enjoyed being with them in that special place together. We hope that next time we can get an even bigger group to go. What a wonderful way to recharge our spiritual batteries.

If we all can work together we can overcome obstacles like childcare, or transportation. Just let us know what your needs are, or if you are able to help out, and we'll try to coordinate our efforts to give every sister an opportunity to attend the temple.

Dinner at Panera

We had a fairly small group for our dinner out this month. But with good food , good friends, and good conversation, you can't go wrong! Next month is Mexican food. See the Newsletter for details.

Humanitarian Activity

This past Saturday, the 23rd of January, we had the first of many Humanitarian Activities. We are planning to have one every month. We had a great turn out!

We actually had two projects going. We were finishing up a project that was started last year; making rice bags to use as hot or cold packs, that we are donating to the hospital. Aren't they cute?! Thanks to all those talented sisters who can sew.

Also we began a new project. These file folder games will be sent to the Humanitarian Center in SLC and the Church will send them to orphanages throughout the world. As a way to teach and stimulate the minds of those children. There was a lot of coloring, cutting, pasting, and laminating going on. Thanks to all those who came we got a lot accomplished, but we are by no means done with the 25 games we plan to make. We will likely be finishing up at another months meeting.
Visiting Teaching interviews were also conducted by members of the RS Presidency as well as VT coordinators. Here's hoping that we will all be more faithful in fulfilling this special calling to serve those sisters in our own ward family.

After all the hard work (and visiting with one another) it was time to eat. And we had brownies to finish it off. MMMMmmm.
